Melanoleuca melaleuca  —  Common Cavalier — Tricholomataceae


Small to medium mushroom. Convex cap, often with small umbo, maturing to flat to concave, smooth, dark brown to gray-brown, center often darker, hygrophanous.. Gills crowded, narrow, attached, whitish to tan or salmon. Stalk as tall as cap diameter, bulbous base, longitudinal fibers, lighter than cap. Saprophytic.

 
Habitat:
 Single to several, coniferous and deciduous forest.

Scent: Mild

Spores: White to cream

Season: Summer to Autumn
