Small to large mushroom. Convex or bell-shaped cap maturing to broadly convex or flat, sometimes with umbo. Viscid when fresh, blue-green becoming yellowish-green and finally brownish-yellow, margin with partial veil remnants.  Gills attached, close when fresh, short-gills present, whitish or pale gray, aging to purplish, or nearly black, with contrasting edges. Stalk as tall as cap diameter, equal, dry, white scales when young, pale above, like cap below, with ring that disappears. Saprophytic.

Habitat: Solitary or gregarious, beneath conifers, also on woody debris or in grass; terrestrial, disturbed areas, woods.

Scent: Fragrant

Spores: Purplish-brown

Season: Summer to Autumn
