Cryptoporus volvatus   — Cryptic Globe Fungus — Polyporaceae


Small to medium mushroom. Round to compressed cap, smooth or glossy, hollow within, yellowish to tan or creamy, aging darker.  Pores covered with cap material, white aging to pinkish or brownish, spores released by boring beetles. Stalk absent. Resembles lumpy puff-ball. Saprophytic.

Habitat: Solitary or gregarious, dead conifers, sometimes living material, causing grayish brown rot.

Scent: Fragrant

Spores: Pinkish

Season: Summer to Autumn
