Pluteus cervinus   — Deer Mushroom — Pluteaceae


Small to large mushroom. Convex cap, broadening, sometimes umbonate or planar, smooth or streaked with fibrils, dark brown to paler dingy brown, sometimes lighter margin, center brownish.  Gills close, free, short gills present, whitish maturing to pinkish. Stalk as tall as cap diameter, equal or with thickened base, white, sometimes with darker fibrils, dark at base.

Habitat: Solitary or groups, decaying wood, humus, woody debris, most of hardwoods.

Scent: Radishlike

Spores: Pinkish-brown

Season: Autumn
