Lyophyllum decastes  — Fried chicken mushroom — Lyophyllaceae


Small to large mushroom. Convex cap, maturing to planar with margin turned upward, smooth, moist. Cap whitish to grayish-brown, often streaked. Gills white, aging to yellow, attached to or running down stalk.  Stalk smooth, dry, thickened, equal or tapering downward, whitish maturing to brownish, particularly at the base. Veil absent. Saprophytic.

Habitat: Usually large clusters, sometimes solitary or scattered, terrestrial, often disturbed sites, occasionally in woods.

Scent: Not distinctive or somewhat fragrant

Spores: White

Season: Summer to Autumn
