Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca  —  False Chanterelle — Hygrophoropsidaceae


Small to medium mushroom. Convex cap, aging to broadly convex, or sometimes depressed, velvety, margin inrolled when young; color orangish to brownish-yellow when mature, often a darker center. Glabrous, viscid, striate at wrinkled margin. Red to orange margin, fading. Stalk sometimes off-center, often with swollen base, similar to cap in color, or paler. Sometimes velvety. Decurrent gills, attached to stalk, orange. Saprophytic.
 
Synonym: Clitocybe aurantiaca
 
Habitat:
Scattered to large groups, conifers.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: White

Season: Autumn
