Helvella lacunosa — Fluted Black Elfin Saddle — Helvellaceae


Medium to large mushroom. Cap irregularly lobed, the margin partly attached to the stalk. Upper surface smooth, black to dark gray, smooth or bumpy; lower surface gray, smooth or ribbed. Stalk equal or wider towards the base, fluted and chambered, whitish to gray. Probably mycorrhizal.
 
 
Habitat:  Solitary or scattered in debris under conifers, sometimes in disturbed places along roads and trails.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: White

Season: Autumn
