Cortinarius montanus —  Cortinariaceae


Medium to large mushroom. Cap broadly conical, smooth, viscid, deep brown at the center, a lighter olive-brown at the margin. with a purplish tint. Gills yellowish becoming olive, close. Stalk tall, tapering towards the top, with a large basal bulb; with purple tints at the apex, becoming pallid, eventually appearing fibrous and brownish. Mycorrhizal.
 
 
Habitat:  Solitary or in small groups, in deep debris under Douglas-fir and Western Hemlock. 

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Rusty-brown

Season: Autumn
