Chalciporus piperatus — Peppery Bolete — Boletaceae


Small to medium mushroom. Cap viscid, becoming paler, cracked, and hairy with age, reddish-brown to purplish-brown. Red to reddish-brown pores, darkening when bruised. Stalk uniform or thicker at either end, yellow to tan with reddish granules when young, darkening. Mycorrhizal.
 
Habitat: Solitary or small groups, terrestrial or on rotting wood, forest settings.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: Brown-to-cinnamon

Season: Summer to autumn
