Morganella pyriformis — Warted Puffball — Agaricaceae


 
Small “puffball” with stemlike base. Rounded white cap covered with tiny warts, granules, scales, warts, or small spines; cap becomes pear-shaped with age. Opening at top releases spores. White inside cap, becoming filled with spore dust. Mycelia attached to stem, pinched off. Persistent. Saprophytic.

Habitat: Dense clusters on rotting wood, forest

Scent: Very fungal

Spores: Olive-brown

Season: Autumn to early winter, sometimes spring
