Lepiota clypeolaria — Shield Dapperling — Agaricaceae


Small to medium-sized mushroom with pale brown oval cap, becoming convex. Broad umbo, yellowish-brown scales soon developing. Gills close, whitish to cream, fringed, free. Brownish stalk taller than cap diameter, slender, with shaggy scales the color of cap scales. Cottony partial veil, woolly ring. Saprophytic.

Habitat: Single or small groups in coniferous forest. woody debris.

Scent: Unpleasant

Spores: Pale cream

Season: Late summer, autumn
