Medium-sized with rounded brownish to ochre cap. Pale margin on cap with small umbo, streaks. Hygrophanous. Gills free, yellowish, maturing to reddish-brown, distinctive for the genus. Stalk swollen at base, slender. Common name refers to white hairs covering lower stalk. Saprophytic. Mushrooms persistent. Not indigenous to region.

Habitat: Small groups on leaf litter, woody debris.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: White

Season: Early summer to autumn
