Gymnopus dryophilus — Common Collybia — Agaricaceae


Convex mushroom sometimes with wavy margin or umbonate when mature, becoming irregular or lobed. Cap color varies from chestnut-brown to ochre, hygrophanous, yellowish when wet, fading to buff when dry. Stalk longer than cap diameter, swollen base, slender, cartilaginous, paler than cap or similar color, white strands at base. Gills white to pale yellow, notched or attached. Long-lived mushroom.

Habitat: Forms small groups or rings, in coniferous and hardwood forest.

Scent: Not distinctive

Spores: White to pale yellow

Season: Spring to autumn
