Agaricus augustus - Giant Agaricus (The Prince) -Agaricaceae



Large mushroom, rounded whitish cap expanding and upturned at maturity, with brown scales. Surface dry, bruising yellowish when touched. Gills pale, becoming brownish-black with age, close packed when young, free when mature. Scaly stalk, slightly enlarged, white with darker scales, staining yellowish, penetrating soil. Double ring, stalk shaggy beneath. Saprophytic.

Habitat: Disturbed sites in forest settings, alongside trails, in campgrounds. Lowland

Scent: Almond

Spores: Brown

Season: Summer to Autumn
